| no partners | | Was supposed to do a different hike today but my cousin was not feeling up to par. Since the weather was precarious and it was sprinkling off and on, I parked at the TH lot just in case I wanted to get back to Tonto 3 sooner. Tried out a new pair of Merrell Antora shoes and the fit seems good, plus they're nice looking (got them on sale).
I altered my route and headed up the Summit Trail and took a right, west, to the western saddle and then headed east around the southside of the mountain with the wind at my back. The Brittlebush are blooming more prolificly now, as are the Creosote. There were a few Scorpionweed and one block of Lupine. Lots of deceased Fiddleneck and some new. The browning seems to have stalled. The mountain looked quite green today in the filtered light. I could see rainfall to the east above the Supes and to the northwest above the Bradshaws.
I headed back up the paved hill where I normally leave Tonto 3, just to get a little extra mileage and AEG. It was pretty chilly out there. I was suprised to see more than 1/2 dozen hikers heading up and down the summit trail. I encountered about 4 hikers and one rabbit. My right hip flexor is giving me all sorts of trouble but there is nothing to be done except maybe to rest it for a while. However, I would think it would just start bothering me again once I start exercising/hiking, so I don't see the point.
WATCH 2.62 mi, 2:31-3:23 burning 322 calories, 1490-1727 elevation, 126 avg bpm/148 max. Temp was a chilly 60.7, cloudy and 39% humidity. |

Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled. |
