I turned 50 today and couldn't have asked for better weather. The heat broke with a nice storm front rolling in. I hit the trail about 10A and was ill prepared for rain. I had a lightweight wind breaker and a bunch of zip-lock bags for my important stuff.

Right away the burn smell hits you. The second thing is the massive amount of burned areas. The devastation was everywhere along each trail. Garden Valley and Hackberry Mesa both got hit hard. It's disappointing to see the large saguaros along the Hackberry ridge burned hurt the most. Thankfully the riparian area down towards Boulder Canyon was still green. It looks like the fire jumped over the green and worked its way up the other side.
