Normally I would go up to See Canyon to check out fall foliage earlier in the month than this, but with the fall foliage being later than usual up there this year I decided to wait until today.

From the See Canyon TH we went east on the Highline Trail towards Drew to an area 1.5 miles or so from the TH that has a concentration of bigtooth maples for about 1/3 of a mile. Then we went back to the See Canyon Trail and went up to See Spring. After that we went back to the See Canyon Trail and went up the canyon to about 7,000 feet of elevation.

The maples were really nice at the target destination on the Highline Trail -- I would describe the foliage as "substantial" or possibly even "extreme" in this area. The bigtooths are definitely in full bloom here!

We saw some nice color going up towards See Spring, but I would describe them as being "moderate" -- a lot of leaves were still green and there wasn't the abundance of color that I have seen there in the past.

While there were some maples "blooming" around the TH, the color was fairly light for the most part on the lower portion of the See Canyon Trail. However, as we gained elevation the fall foliage got much better. Once we got to about 6,700 feet or so the colors started to explode, and I'd once again describe the foliage in that section as "substantial" right now.

As the weather cools off I would think that there will be more color in the lower part of See Canyon in the coming days, but who knows.

The temperature was 36 at the start of the hike and it was 54 when we finished -- in other words a really nice day for hiking!

Synopsis
There is some nice fall foliage in some parts of this hike, and I am glad that I went up there today.
