I've hiked Haunted Canyon many times but there were a couple of additional things along the hike that I wanted to check out and my hiking partner was in. Got to the lower TH at 8 am to a chilly 37 degrees as we started down the road. The first part of the hike is always a blah road walk before crossing into the wilderness boundary. Before doing so, however, I wanted to check out the Perez Cabin which I always say next time and never get to it. After checking out the cabin we continued down into Haunted Canyon scaring a couple of cattle at the boundary fence, one of them crashed through the corral fence falling before getting back up and running away. The creek was dry for most of the way, however, there were some nice-sized pools here and there. Before getting to the Ranch area we made a stop at Skull Cave. Steep climb up to the cave entrance, where we dropped our packs, grabbed our headlamps, and explored inside. We got about 200 feet inside before coming to an area that dropped down to a room and were not comfortable attempting it not knowing if there were decent handholds so we signed the registry (after a break struggle  ) and headed back out. This was my first time checking out a cave that was not a tour and I'm hooked. Continued down the canyon to Toney Ranch, where we explored the cabin, had some lunch, and headed back. On the way back out we opted to take the narrow section in the creek instead of climbing up the rocky side. The geology in the narrow section was cool to check out as we boulder-hopped down meeting back up with the official trail a short time later and made our way back to the TH.Just another great day in the Supes showing S the beautiful Haunted Canyon area.
