Within a hundred yards of the start I encountered a spot where the top two wires had been cut. Knowing there were wire remnants nearby I found a suitable piece to make a quick temporary fix to the upper wire. Being a Federal holiday I waited until the next day to notify the FS, but I did call the Horse Management group right away to notify them for follow-up.
Continuing along the fence line I found the rest was intact. I came across a relatively new fire ring of rocks (not there last year) and a nearby stack of dead wood just waiting to be used, but no evidence of any anticipated camp. While there are random stealth camps in the area from time to time, I'd never seen one here.
After crossing to the other side of Bush Highway I continued with a miscellaneous rambling, snapping a few interesting photos along the way, eventually making it back to the car completely off-trail but for three trail 'crossings'. |
