| partners | | Got out for another mid-week morning hike--a good excuse to miss an unnecessary meeting at work. I pushed the limits of my creativity and followed the same route I did last week, but started a little earlier this time and was on Marcos de Niza for the sunrise. We went through Hidden Valley, then down to Mormon Trailhead before looping back on Javelina Canyon, with some short petroglyph detours.
On the way back, a diamondback crossed the trail, the first snake I've seen this season...fittingly, just in time for the D-Backs opening day. More interesting than the snake was the (over)reaction of a hiker who approached and started freaking out: "Oh no! @*&% no!! I've lived here 20 years and never seen a rattlesnake!" Well, she has now . I couldn't tell if she was scared, excited, or both, but she started taking pictures. Overall, a moderately busy day on the trails, lots of blooming ocotillo, and nice weather in the morning as it starts to cool off for the weekend. |
