We did this hike later in the day as we drove into the area and did another hike earlier. It is nice to be so far north that the long days of light until 9p allow for hiking late in the day! Also, I highly recommend hiking later in the day when most people are eating dinner or resting, as we saw no people outside of the main parking areas. The light towards the end of the hike wasn't great as it was getting towards dusk, but as a tradeoff I will take solitude over fantastic light any day!

This is a great hike. The views of the canyon and river are unbeatable, and the backcountry thermal area is phenomenal! We really enjoyed ourselves! If we didn't get such a late start, we would have done the slightly longer loop. Heading out to sublime point or ribbon lake would have been nice side trips as well! Next time!
