My kids agreed to go hiking today, so I was looking for something close by and short (the only kind of hike my kids like!

). I saw photos of the paradox arch and thought that looked like a fun destination!

Hiking with the kids also means no early mornings so instead it was pretty hot. Despite this, it was nice to be outside! The desert was greening up nicely after the hurricane rains recently. Not a lot of water in the canyon. The trail up to the arch and cave looks surprisingly well defined and is marked with cairns. The cave was a nice place for lunch, with a nice view of the arch and surroundings.

I was surprised at how many flowers were around. Lots of bees and butterflies, as well. Saw plenty of geckos running around, too.

The crosscut trailhead was very full when we arrived and mostly empty (2 cars) when we left. We saw only a few groups on the trail, so not too bad, and none in Canyon of the waterfalls. Everyone must have been at massacre falls!

Lots of car traffic continuing past crosscut th on towards first water.
