Day 1 of backpacking the Grand Canyon of the Tuoloume River in Yosemite. Such a beautiful place! The drive from Phoenix was long, but seemed to go fast on the way there. We started driving early and stayed overnight before the backpack in nearby Sherwin Creek Campground which is very near to Mammoth Lakes. The CG has tent sites as well as RV sites along with water and vault toilets. It is a convenient jump off point for Yosemite.

In the morning of our first day backpacking, we picked up our permits at the backcountry office first thing in the moe9when they opened. It made for a tight window to pick up the permits and still make the bus, but we managed. It helped that the bus was running just a tad late. We left both cars at the bus stop lot. We were lucky to find spaces!

It is a 40 minute drive from the bus stop near the visitor center to white Wolf. The remainder of my trip report is basically in the guide page! 🤣

This is a pretty hike, but at the end I was happy to be done with going down! 🤣🤣 We saw a couple hikers at our campsite that night that were going uphill. For me, I definitely preferred the down for 3500 ft. I prefer the direction we hiked from white Wolf to tuolumne Meadows, as the up is broken up over a couple days.

The campsite areas just before the bridge are enormous! And swimming after dinner was amazing! 🏊😁
