Was having trouble trying to find a way up that didn't involve free climbing a 15' vertical wall. Eventually turned to googling and figured out that you have to follow the social trail to the NE side of the Cockscomb and there be a way to climb up. After the short climb I used some stone stairs to make it to the top. Enjoyed the views and found the geocaches, did not find a summit log, but found lots of evidence of people making fires up here. Returned the way I came and followed the trail back to the Aerie trailhead. From the summit of the Cockscomb you can see Doe Mtn, Mescal Mtn, Bear Mtn, Windmill Mtn, and others. Enjoyable hike in all. |
