I had walked in this range 10 years ago on the hills and ridges and noticed pottery even during the approach from the flats. So I figured it might be a good place to go back to and look specifically for ancient stuff. The main goal: painted Hohokam pottery.
This worked out pretty well. Nice walking and I did find a lot of pottery - mostly plain but some painted. Further I started to recognize the remnants of habitation sites: local concentrations of medium size rocks with pottery pieces. I imagine these were pit houses. I walked around about 10 of these.
This kept me busy but I also passed a little bit of smuggler trash (also seen 10 years ago), a couple petroglyphs, and a crested saguaro. |
