Route ended up being longer than I thot and I ended up taking way too many movies (sky was pretty) but it was a good workout. I started clockwise per the hike guide. I intended to throw in the Ridgeline too for some elevation. The parking lot was full but fortunately as I was turning around, a car pulled out.

I started up the hill on the Circumference Trail, having done this section all the way to the middle saddle last year. The sun was peeking in and out of the clouds which made it a bit nippy at times. This trail is a little rocky here and there so you do have to pay attention to where you're walking. I rounded the eastern saddle and started hiking west when the sun came out again. Last time I hiked here it was overcast so it looks a little different when the sun shines on it.

I tried to make good time but ended up taking a lot more movies which slows me down. I only ran into about 5 hikers on this side until the saddle where you drop around to the southwestern side when all of a sudden I encountered quite a few hikers. For the rest of the hike I would encounter hikers, more than I thot I would on a late Sunday afternoon. It felt like I was constantly pulling over as I think it's easier if a single hiker steps aside.

This side of the Deem Hills is all new to me. I now see where the other TH is, near a recreation area. The hills are filled with interesting rocks and natural rock walls. Along with the golden grasses and smattering of desert cactus and trees, it's a pretty view. As you hit the west side you can see Pyramid Peak and the canal. Walking on the north side you eventually encounter a straight on view of the canal which is quite cool.

The Circumference Trail starts to veer south again for a while before I encountered the Ridgeline Trail. It kind of goes every which way as it gradually takes you up to the ridge. I was impressed with the somewhat easy grade. I finally made it to the top, looked around and then, yep, those darn hot air balloons showed up so I had to stop and get some pictures. I had my regular camera with me so I was able to do some zooming. The pictures would have been better but the direction and haze in the sky interfered with the quality.

I headed down the trail, I had been on this part last year too. I joined up with Basalt Trail to take me back down to the Circumference which does a little zig zag before taking you straight north to the bottom. It was all in the shade but surprisingly, not too cold. In the valley between, you could see all the seed head Stinknet; such a shame. There is a lot of it here. I rounded the corner and saw the home stretch before me.

I had my beer and peanuts while watching the colors of the sunset surround the area. It is a nice workout hike but I wish the trail were a tad smoother. I ended up taking a lot of movies with lots of narration.

Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.
