| no partners | | Having done the Pipeline trail...16 years...ago(yikes!) we hoped to see some wild burros again and we weren't disappointed. We could hear them about 3/4 in to the hike–a little bit past the connector trail that links back up with Pipeline Trail–but couldn't spot them somewhere on the hillside west side of the Pipeline. We had better luck on the way back deciding to take advantage of the connector trail to jump over to the Pipeline. Sure enough we could see at least 4 burros about 250' up the side of the hill.
This trail was much busier than expected and not much room to pass, but otherwise an enjoyable hike
Flora: Goldeneye seemed happy out here, with a smattering poppies, and Dichelostemma capitatum.
Fauna: Burros obviously, but also a pair of crows each had perched on top of some saguaros near end of the trail at the overlook. Butterflies: California Patch, Checkered White, Queen, and one I haven't yet identified: Mostly black with white across the bottom edges, I can't say it wasn't a Weidemeyer's Admiral but I don't think it was–the white seemed closer to the edge and the habitat is wrong. |
