| no partners | | | Really good trip since it has been a while for me with a pack on and 3-4 days of food. Wet footed hiking in a wide meandering flood plain with the river shallow in spots but good flow. Good bivy camping under mostly cottonwoods but my favorite on a sand bar under a huge cedar type tree. Side canyon goals, one I made but had to laugh as I wasn't sure and hadn't brought a map with me ( in the car doesn't help). However it was the goal one so that was good. No sign of any recent human traffic. A bit of scrambling and light spring flow in part of it. Second side canyon I had been in years ago; one set of boot prints noted. One word for this canyon-- Exquisite. Tall red to orange walls, big cottonwoods and water with sandy stretches and boulders, easy get arounds. Surprising spots of quicksand. No signs of camps or trash in either side canyon. Saw no one in the main until about a 50 yards of my parking area, when a young man popped out of the bushes, took a quick cell phone shot of the river and rock walls and took off in less than a couple of minutes. For the gram I suppose. Pics still in the camera and will get around to that soon. |
