I did this hike as a loop but not sure if the mileage is exact. I started at 5:00am and was able to stay in the shade for about 75% of the time.I went up Holbert and stopped 3/4 of the way up to watch the sunrise than on up to the National Trail. I took the National over to the Kiwanis Trail and went down it. From there I went down part of the Los Lomita Trail to the Box Canyon Trail. The Box Canyon Trail goes behind the visitor center and through a nature trail and back over to the Holbert Trail.Not a bad loop if you don't want to do the up and back on the Holbert Trail. Another great day hiking on South Mountain.
