After the first four miles there are some big cairns to follow most of the way. The trail follows some old roads for a lot of the way after about the fifth mile but you have to stay on the right one and it does leave the roads from time to time. The last stretch to the fire tower follows the main road and seemed to take forever. The tower was locked and no one home. Some nice views. We took a different route down from the tower and that saved us a couple miles. The clouds rolled in on the way back and saved us from the sun a big part of the way.The clouds made the views better too. It pushed me to my limit for sure. I had five Gatorades and still needed a quart of water. Thanks to Bob for bringing his pump filter! Thanks to all who went! I don't think I'll be doing this one again. At least not in July |
