| no partners | | This was fun hike. I made to the Pine mountain peak and found all three markers thanks to GPS Joe's waypoint. I was standing right at them, but I didn't see them for a couple of minutes. There's a circle of rocks around the main marker. Also by the main marker is a downed 4 foot stake with a piece of wire going into a stake. The views of four peaks, ridgeline and Weavers needle were great. I'm surprised that this not a more popular trail. Getting to the trail was easy. I need to clarify the driving directions though. You take the fourpeaks FR 143 for 11 miles to FR143A. Then take FR143A until it ends. I had no problem finding the trail or staying on it. I saw the trail as soon as I parked. When you park at the trail head, look directly East and you'll see an old stump with a cairn on it. From the stump you can see the trail sign about 15 feet down the trail. The trail is worn down and well cairned. One mistake not make it start hiking from the old spring box. The trail is about 20 feet to the right of the old spring box.
As I was driving out, I saw a girl stuck in her non-4x4 truck. She couldn't make it up a steeper section and tried to turn around, but got stuck near a drop off(with loose dirt). I got out and dug out the spinning tire. Then she freed the back tire and got the front one stuck. Then a big Chevy 4x4 came up with toes straps and pulled her out. |
