I came back to the Rogers Canyon TH and looked for the trail that leads to Tony's ranch from here. This is nice hike that provides a sampling of desert hiking. You start out from the Picket post hiking in and out a washes and cross under I-60. Then you cross over the Queen creek. Then you pass through some cholla fields (fuzzy and chain). Then you climb to a ridgeline with great views of Picket Post, Superior mountains and the Superstitions. Then you drop into a riparian area. Then you cross over happy camper road and climb up on the side of a canyon. After a couple of miles, you drop down to the road and hit the Rogers Canyon TH. Shortly after the TH, you run into a ruins of an old cabin.
I turned around shortly after at the mud springs. The trail climbs to superstition wilderness/Rogers trough (but that's another hike). The trail is well traveled or cairned if the trail is faint. This is a good trail to hike if you want t cover a lot of distance with some great views and a variety of landscape. |
