We took I-60 to SR79, went 21 miles south of Florence and turned left (East) onto Freeman road. Then we drove about 19 miles down Freeman to the TH. The TH was not that obvious. It was a dirt road with an AZT carbonate sign. The GPS points are N32 52.250 W110 52.967. Freeman road is one of the best dirt roads I've ever been on. We were driving 35 ~ 40 MPH on it. The road even had street signs and stops signs! We saw two snakes and countless falcons/vultures along the road. The hike started off on a nice trail that was easy to follow. The trail lead to a road that lead to another trail. About 4 ~ 5 miles in we went past a bunch of rock outcroppings. We also went past a gate with an interesting weight system that was used to auto-close the gate. At the lunch spot we walked around on top of the rock piles and I found some holes that didn't look natural, but maybe Indian made. I took a picture and will post it. We went back to the car and I quickly looked across the road to see where section 14 ends. It was a another perfect spring hike. The wind was cool and the it keeps the temps on the cool side. The trail was easy to follow and pretty flat. This is a good trail to pound out some easy miles. |
