| no partners | | This was my first time at the Dynamite TH with all the improvements being completed. It looks much nicer now. Parking is very nice and the trails that lead to the main building are all very well marked.
I started up Hawknest and took it all the way to the Brown's Ranch Road Trail, then took that around Brown's Mountain to the Wrangler Trail, and made my way back to the TH mostly on the Latigo Trail. I took a shortcut on the Sidewinder Trail, and later noticed that the Latigo Trail in that area has been re-routed in a way that I've never hiked yet. Finished up with just under 12 miles. Most of the mileage was on the way out as the Hawknest Trail is much windier than Latigo, which is more of a straightaway.
On the way back there was a rattlesnake laying across the trail. It started to move as I started to try to get pictures, and then 2 bikers were coming up behind me. I waved them down and warned them about the snake, which by that time was nearly completely off the trail. I tried to get better pictures but this one was camera shy and stuck to the shade of the bushes.
Mostly an even mix of bikers and hikers. Mostly hikers around Brown's Ranch and mountain, a steady line heading up to the summit of Brown's. Big grouping of bikers on their way out as I was on my way in on Latigo. The crested saguaro along the Latigo Trail seems to be a new advertised feature. I saw it's now marked on the latest maps and there are several signs along the trail to make sure that you don't dare miss it.
Sunny and warm all day, but not hot. didn't use much water at all. Very nice weather for now, but summer's coming soon enough. |
