| partners | | There’s another area nearby that I’ve been dying to get into, but couldn’t figure out a route. I had researched a couple of roads I wanted to check out and we drove for a while. We were able to drive on the big ridge trail 117 for quite a ways before it just got too narrow. We couldn’t get close enough to even try to drop in, so I’ll need to research that one more! Anyway, that took all morning so we wanted some time to relax before heading back to the valley!
We did some hammocking and reading creek side for a good amount of the afternoon. I’ve never seen this place not crowded, so I was psyched when we had it to ourselves! The creek itself is so beautiful in this area.
I wanted to get some steps in so I suggested we walk over to colcord falls. A friend had been there a couple of weeks ago, so I knew it was dry, but I was curious to see just how low the water levels were.
We only had to walk about a mile each way from where we parked to the falls. We were able to keep feet mostly dry since the creek bed was a bit shallow, and there’s and old road adjacent to the creek. The falls were totally dry and all that was there was a tiny muddy puddle. It does not look like the same place at all! Since it was dry we were able to scramble up above the falls to see colcord canyon. There were only shallow puddles of water up there. We really need some rain! |
