What use to be my raspberry honey hole had turned into a mess of a trail.
Only found 5 berries and could barely make it down to the spring.
I think that may have been my last hike on this once nice clean trail full of berries :(

To save the afternoon I hiked down below the cabins to an old secret childhood hide out from my parents.
Beautiful area in the pines where I sat by the dry creek and had myself a dinner camp complete with a chocolate banana desert and caramel coffee!

Sad about Twilight, but happy to hide down in the canyon again from ... everybody!

Weather forecast - Partly cloudy with slight breeze high of 42 degrees.
What I got at 9000 ft - Fully in the clouds with winds at 25, gusts up to 45 and cold AF!
I first hiked up to High Peak meadow to meet some crazy extreme weather. The aspens were golden and looked spectacular in the clouds, but I could only tolerate about an hour up there in that weather.
Next up was back down and around the mountain to Twilight. There I met the partly cloudy with slight breeze forecast. Hiked around the bend to the Heliograph Peak view and back.
Twilight CG was empty so I took advantage and had a nice quite dinner with campfire.
While sipping hot chocolate I had a lone coati wander through the campground 8)
Drove back down at sunset.
Swift Trail colors are popping and aspens are golden (on High Peak).

Went up to Twilight to check fall colors.
Lightning, thunder, rain & hail on me all afternoon.
I somehow managed to get in 3 poncho miles of hiking.
Swift Trail is popping colors now, 1 more week and it will be primo!
Arcadia & RTM campgrounds were flooding.
It hailed on the upper mountain so hard that it turned the entire road completely white ... wow!
As I left the mountain, not a single cloud over it ... Pinaleno weather :?
Arrived back home to see that town got hit hard with the storms too.
Not many pics today, will give that fall colors thing a go again soon.
Stormy, but fun :D

A little hiking, a little storm chasing & a little car camping.
Would also like to add Deadman Curve, Ladybug Saddle & 127 canyon to the list.
Started low with a blazing humid hot (almost puked) overlook hike to Jacobson Canyon, within 1 hour I was hiking up high through the clouds on the Shake Trail freezing my A off ... amazing experience!
On the way back down had to van shelter from a big rain/hail storm at Twilight.
Crazy mountain weather, monsoons are back.

Wasn't sure what weather I was gonna get on the mountain today?
Sooo ... I started on top at Ladybug Saddle and just worked my way down the mountain hitting favorite shorty's.
Ladybug Peak - Awesome views up & down. Dramatic skies 360 and a few ladybugs on top (still early for the masses).
Twilight Spring - I skipped the spring in favor of the Heliograph overlook view around the mountain.
Jacobson Sawmill - Just to Cluff Dairy to check on the apples. Ping pong ball size, but lots of them. First clap of thunder overhead.
John's Dam - Thunder to the south as I made my way down. No water flowing over, creek above dry.
Dankworth Pond - Last stop of the day to visit a friend and take in the sunset.
Cool temps up high, humid down low, little lightning & thunder here and there and the evening's sunset was good ... A good day!

Plan A, B & C ... sheesh
Plan A up high. Got just a bit up Ladybug when the snow started falling. Not a trail I want to hike in snow.
Plan B Twilight Road just up the road. Got just a bit up this when the heavy snow hit. Now it was just a race to get down the mountain to avoid getting snowed in. Scary ride down as visibility became limited.
Got down into the snow free zone (5000 ft) and chose Plan C the "secret" horse trail. Got down the trail to Jacobson Creek and ran into the FS horses that roam this area. Horses ... on the horse trail 8)
Was hoping for a hike up high, but this lower trail was really nice and scenic with the snowy backdrop.
Quick stop at Roper on the way home for a buddy visit and walk around.
Crazy weather day on Graham.
At Ladybug saddle it was 24deg with 20mph winds = Wind chill factor 9.5deg :pk:

Am gonna put this under snowshoeing, but really it was Yaktrax shoeing.
Hiked Twilight Rd to the campgrounds on about 50% hard slippy ice.
There should be way more snow there right now, but Graham had a below snow fall this winter ... again.
The campgrounds were mostly snow free, just snow in the shade here and there.
I set up a hammock camp and spent 2 hours just relaxing by a fire with coffee and treats.
Hiked back out to the Swift Trail as the sun set.
Was a good afternoon.

This old trail is getting harder and harder to follow and hike ... but that's a good thing to me!
It's one of my (and others) secret berry hunting grounds.
It's still a bit early, but I managed to fill a baby food jar with sweet raspberries.
And it's a beautiful trail leading to a small field of sunflowers at the spring.

Went to pick berries,
Found very few and also found the trail to be in bad shape.
I doubt this trail will survive a few more years, another side effect from the Frye Fire.

Hiked to the Heliograph Peak overlook from the campgrounds.
Then spent several hours day camping at the campgrounds.
Lots of deer sightings today including 2 young fawns with mother.
A few monsoon cells on and around the mountain.
