Started from the Meridian TH that's about a half mile south of the Meridian/Bulldog Pass TH at the very end of Merdian Road, getting on the flat and easy trails right away. Made a big loop of Meridian, Blevins, Chainfruit, Lost Sheep, Moon Rock, Channel, Noso and back to Blevins and Meridian. I had just a little bit of shade when I started as the sun hadn't quite hit the horizon yet. By the end it was getting hot as it does this time of year. The last 2 miles when I got to the benches in the park I stretched my legs out on them as my legs were feeling a little stiff once I hit the 8 mile mark.

Lots of hikers and bikers seen, fewer as the morning wore on. No wildlife spotted, but I did see a track from a snake across the Meridian Trail on my way back, so I guess I just missed a diamondback at some point. Finished up just before 10am.

After the deathmarch slog from the day before, I just wanted to do something easy and laid back. Went over to Usery Park (short drive) and hit some trails I haven't done in a few years there. Started on Blevins, and did a loop with Amigos Wash, Channel Trail, Moon Rock, Lost Sheep and Chainfruit trails back to the Area 10 lot.

It was cool at the start because the sun hadn't hit the horizon. Then when I was in Amigos Wash it was cool again because of the shade and because it's usually cooler in washes in the mornings.

Nice to get a few miles in just after a huge hike the day before. my legs were stiff but not too bad. I felt it more by the end of the hike and decided that was enough for the weekend. The smooth and level trails here were a nice respite from the last part of the hike the day before. Got many distant views of Mt. Lemmon just after having been there. didn't see any wildlife other than birds and rodents, but heard the usual coyote packs howling in the morning as the sun rose.

Started from Area 10 and hiked Blevins to Cat Peaks, Cat Peaks Pass, off trail to the two shorter peaks, Nighthawk Wash, Channel Trail, and Crismon Wash back to Area 10. Legs were still stiff from the hike the day before, but not too bad. I hiked slower in general but even more so along the peaks. It's officially off trail, but there are trails up there to the peaks. nice to check those out. Typical foot traffic was out, not too bad. a few bikers but not many.

Little bit of a later start than usual for me, kind of a lazy day hiking. Did a loop on the flatter trails, doing some zig zagging north and south between the Blevins and Levee Trails. Lots of water and a little leftover hail from the storms the night before. Saw a coyote and a hawk. Only a few other hikers and shockingly no bikers. A couple more hikes on the Blevins Trail and I'll my first big red dot on my triplog map.

Between the heat and having to get some chores done, I opted to hike as Usery. I hadn't hiked the Crismon Wash Trail in several years, so I made sure to start off with that. I hiked a convoluted loop out to the end of the Ruidoso Trail and then back along the Channel Trail and other lower elevation trails in that area. Saw an odd looking lizard that was a bit larger than most others you normally see. Finished up in 4 hours and got on with the rest of the day's chores.

Stayed close to home again for a hike. I hiked the Pass Mountain Loop and added the Amigos Wash and Noso Trail as part of it. Nothing major of note. The views on the north and east side of the loop are always the best. I always hike this loop clockwise. Going uphill on the east side seems like too much AEG at once for me to want to take on. The green is starting to fade to brown from the heavy monsoon, but there's still plenty there. Lots of bugs around as well, but not too bad. Didn't see too many bikers with this choice of trails. The hikers and the trail runners seemed to be about the same amount. Got more AEG than I've had recently, felt good to work a little more.

A quick morning exercise hike along the southern trails of Usery MRP. I started at the Crismon Rd TH and made a loop from the Levee Trail and then on to: Channel Trail, Noso, Cat Peaks Pass, Cat Peaks, Blevins and back via the Levee.

I was hoping for some nice light with all the clouds, by Mr Sun remained hidden the entire hike. The temps were pleasant, but the humidity was almost tropical. Oh well, I was there to get in some early miles and that is exactly what I did. I brought no water, no pack and just my phone, which unfortunately, I actually had to answer a few times. Ah, The perks of being in business for yourself.

A few groups of mountain bikers, a couple of trail runners & hikers, but it was mostly solitude the entire length. No critters to report.

Exercise hike along a couple of the trails in the south section of Usery MRP. I parked off McKellips Rd and 105th Street and set off.

The temps were in the 90's, but it was a pleasant hike. I saw a couple mountain bikers and another hiker that was singing loudly (and off key) to some groovy music on her headphones. No snakes (bummer), but I did see a roadrunner, a bunch of bunnies and a hawk.

The sunset was very muted. Got in my almost 5 miles and the fresh air and exercise I was looking for.

I didn't feel like driving far, so I hiked close to home at Usery Park. There was a section of an unmapped trail I saw off of the Ruidoso Trail last March, so I planned out a circuit to hit that and a few other trails. Started from Area 10 and took Blevins over to the Merkle and Vista Trails, which I haven't hiked in about 15 years. A couple was having professional photographs of them with the pregnant mom in a white dress. The first born was not happy to be out in the desert at 6am. Along the Vista Trail, I could hear the kid screaming while the dad tried to keep him calm.

Headed east then south along the Meridian and County Line Trails, hit the unmapped trail, then back westward along the Channel Trail. I think I found one more unmapped trail while hiking along the Channel Trail. Not sure if I've hiked the Channel Trail in its entirety before, always seemed to get sidetracked.

Hazy most of the morning from the wildfires. Seemed a little brighter, but the haze was still there. Made for not many good pics other than the sun right at the horizon.

Second hike of the morning. Upon reviewing my HAZ records I discovered that I had never officially done the Channel trail....I had just done it as a link. So I wanted to get a quick loop involving the Channel trail as the main trail. Got to,the Crimson TH around 6:30. Not as busy as last time...only about 10 cars parked along the street. Did a loop going east on the Levee trail. Kind of annoying. I was heading into the early morning sun and I had forgotten my hat. Too bad, there are some decent views of the Supes going this direction. The Channel is literally about 30 ft north of the Levee trail and the two are connected by the Spillway trail (which continues on to the north). When I connected to the Channel trail I briefly followed it (actually it was a dirt road) east to see if the Channel trail continued in that direction. It did not appear to so I quickly turned around and followed the Channel trail west. The Channel trail literally parallels the Leveee trail. The distant views aren't as good because you are in a ditch, but I actually preferred this over the Levee because the ground had some variations (not much, but more than the Levee) and the nearby foliage made it slightly more interesting. Neither trails are that exciting, but they make for an easy run. Saw some quail and a rabbit. Temps were in the 90's and honestly that felt pretty nice.

After hiking over 10 miles and nearly 3000 feet the day before, I wasn't really sore at all. My legs must be in good hiking shape. I decided to take another hike over at Usery Park and took Dmitri again. I wanted to completely hike the Channel Trail and a few other spur trails there. We got down to the area and I ended up finding an unmapped trail heading north. I decided to take that, and then hiked the Noso Trail back down to the Channel Trail. We didn't much farther before I found another unmapped trail going north again. We took that, then headed over to the Ruidoso Trail. On that trail, I found yet a 3rd unmapped trail that headed to the west. I decided against that and kept going on the Ruidoso, on to the County Line, Meridian, and Blevins Trails back to the trailhead. Finished up with 9.7 miles total, which is an other record for Dmitri. He was getting pretty sore the last mile and a half, but pushed through very well.

It was very cloudy to start, but got a little sunny by the end. The first 2 hours, we hardly saw anyone, the last hour and a half, the crowds were out. Finished up before 11am, nice morning on the trails.

Checking out some more Usery trails. If the trail name has wash in it, believe it :) . Slow going. They seem more for horses or exploring. The other little trails in the area are good for Mountain bikes and hiking too.

I tried my hand at jogging. That lasted about 50 yards. Then it became speedwalking and finally normal hiking. This isn't much of a trail but it's all I had time for this morning.

I had to run some errands today and since I was in the neighborhood I decided to hit Usery Park. It has been close to year since I visited some of these trails and it was nice rodo them. Parked off of Crimson Rd. a litle before 7. I didn't have a game plan when I started, but I knew the trails connected frequently, which allows for a lot of spur of the monent decisions.

I took the Levee trail west which allowed for a great view of the Superstition as the sun was rising. The trail was "blah" but the panoramic view was fantastic. Took the Channel trail back toward the car. This in effect, made a long but very narrow oval circle. Both trails parallel each other, are straight, and are probably within 20-30ft. of wach other the whole time. As I was heading back down this trail I heard more coyotes than I can recall hearing before. Sounded like 10 or so all saying good night/good morning :) . COOL.

When I got back to the west end of the Channel trail it ran back into Levee trail. I took this portion of the Levee over to Moon Rock trail. This portion of the Levee and the Moon Rock trail are very nice! The trail doesn't gain in elevation so it is easy to do and twists and turns a lot so I was always seeing something different. The vegetation in this area is very healthy. I was actually looking up at cholla(?), or something like it. These cacti had a 2-3ft. barklike trunk before they turned into a cholla cacti. I'm not sure if this could be because of age or just a certain type of cholla.

From the Moon Rock trail I did the Blevins trail. The Blevins trail actually makes a loop. I enjoyed the northern portion because I got a nice view of Usery Mnt. and it was somewhat engaging. The southern is a straight shot, so the trail itself wasn't that interesting. The surrounding foliage was still very nice. I had to do some backtracking and repetition to get Crimsom Wash trail. This trail pretty much goes north-south and was very sandy (a wash). It got me back to right where I started my hike.

Didn't see many on the trails. Did see a couple of Peters and Wilies and a Jack.
