Pass the upper creek crossing to the Marijilda T, then back.
Noon Creek is dry, a common summer occurrence these last few years.

Only had a starting point in mind today - not really a destination or route ... Hadn't been on the Noon Ridge Trail, so I decided to check that out.
I crossed paths with only one other person.
Another really nice day!

Just a couple afternoon hours around Noon Creek.
Didn't really feel like hiking, but did get a mile in on 302.
Just wanted to hang out by the creek and campground today.

Just the northern segment of the loop with a side trip into the canyon.
Stormy, overcast, foggy weather.
Creek was flowing good.

Good ole' Noon Creek, always there for me and always good to me!
Looped it this afternoon counter clockwise with a slight threat of monsoons above.
Very scenic trail today with good creek flow at both crossings.
After my hike I settled in at RTM CG with a campfire while awaiting the Harvest Moon rise.
Hike, campfire, stars & full moon ... Superfecta!
Saw 2 Pepe' Le Pews in the road on the drive back down.

Ginny and I headed to Safford again for three days of hiking in the Pinaleno Mountains. We didn’t leave Tucson till around 7:00 so we got a late hike start, about 10:00. We started out at the Noon Creek picnic area and took the Noon Creek Trail #302A, a portion of the Round The Mountain Trail #302, Noon Creek Cutoff Trail and what was supposed to be an old logging road to Adams Flat then back to Noon Creek picnic area. The Noon Creek, Round the Mountain and Noon Creek Cutoff Trails were in good condition from recent maintenance.
On the Noon Creek Cutoff Trail I let Ginny lead, not far into it she got surprised by a snake in the trail. It was a bull snake so it is harmless but it was a good size. Snakes always get your attention when you come across them. After that incident I kept an eye on the trail in front of her to watch for rattlesnakes. On the uphill’s I find it easier to let her set the pace so I don’t get too far ahead, sometimes it’s easier to push than pull.
The hike from the end of the Cutoff Trail down Wet Canyon to Adams Flat was a bush whack, the old logging road doesn’t exist anymore, at least that I could find. The bush whack wasn’t as bad as some of the ones I’ve been on in the Chiricahuas, we managed to find a route through without much bloodshed. Ginny is such a trooper, I had her pushing through, under and over bushes and trees all the while I was claiming the trail was there somewhere. The Adams flat trail was a welcome sight. This trail follows an old abandon irrigation canal. It does not look like a maintained trail and can be a little awkward following as it is a shallow ditch with multiple pipes strung along it, easy to trip or stumble. At the junction with the Butterfly Trail we took the road back to the start point.
There was still a little snow on the peaks of the mountain but not nearly as much as a couple weeks ago when I was here. Noon Creek and Jacobson Creeks had a good flow of water still. Made it back to the start point around 4:00 and time to head to Safford and check into the hotel and get dinner.

Up 302 half way :next: dropped into the canyon and up :next: back out on 302 :next: just a bit up RTM.
Met a feller on RTM and together we hiked back down. The creek is starting to pick up with snow melt and there were springy things starting along the water. Just a nice trip out with a new friend made, in my book ... that's a good afternoon in the outdoors!
I also saw my first snake of the year on the road out ... gopher snake.

Morning hike
Up #302A :next: RTM up to Marijilda Saddle and back :next: Down to upper Noon Creek :next: Down Noon Creek Canyon :next: Back up to 302A :next: Back to RTM CG.
Main goal of this trip was to see Marijilda Canyon, it looked awesome and with a light dusting of snow on the peaks.
Then down Noon Creek Canyon to a favorite waterfall for a bit.
Encountered a couple, a hunter & a family of 10 along the way. That may be the most people I have ever seen not only on this trail, but any Pinaleno trail in my life :o
The solitude sucked today ...
Fun hike

First hiked down to lower Noon Creek to check the flow, nada only puddles.
Then hiked RTN up to the overlook and back.
Not much going on tonight with the monsoons.
:)

Added a few late night laps around the block.

SDMB volunteer spent the day string trimming this trail from Noon Creek CG to the Round the Mountain Intersection. Grass had grown tall and was crowding the corridor as a result of monsoon 2021.

First drove up the mountain to 7000 feet to see the snow. Turned around just before the cabins as the road was getting a little bit too snowy & slushy for me.
Next down the mountain, I parked along the Swift Trail and hiked to the ladybug TH via Angle Orchard Road. I then made the short hike down to Jacobson Creek and rested for a bit before hiking out and back up to the Swift Trail. This was the first big test for my surgically repaired shoulder. Have not wore a full pack in almost 5 months and had zero problems with it on this short hike!
I then spent a few hours at the RTM Campground with first another short hike down to Noon Creek followed by dinner and a campfire at sunset.
It was a very good day for me up there, more to follow ...

High chance of thunderstorms projected so I just did some favorite quick out-n-backs.
Shake - Down to the meadow and back. Usually full of sunflowers this time of the year, but not this year.
Twilight - Haven't tried this one since the fire. It's in bad shape and I bailed on this one after only 1/4 mile.
Wet - From Upper Arcadia down the canyon a bit then back. Good water flow and very beautiful.
Noon - From RTM down to the first crossing and back. No water flowing, just a couple of puddles.
6 does, 1 fawn, turkey vulture and several Abert's were spotted this afternoon.

Saw some turning leaves up high & talked with a couple of archery hunters glassing down low,
Summer is starting to wind down ...
:FG:

Down the canyon from the upper crossing to the "slabs".
Off-trail back up to #302A and back down.
Wildflowers, strong creek flow, waterfalls, overcast skies with sprinkles, green throughout.
Will always love this Noon Creek area!

Started from the Noon Creek Picnic area. Could hear the roar of the creek below as soon as I got out of the truck, big snow melt flow is on!
Up #302A :next: off-trail half way up down into the canyon to the "slabs" :next: up canyon to the upper crossing :next: 2 hour sit camp for the scenery :next: back along the loop trail :next: Swift Trail to RTM CG :next: back down to the picnic grounds.
Noon Creek was flowing strong!
Had to play the risk vs reward game in the canyon due to the flow. I missed out on a few of the falls, but lived to hike another day.
Upper crossing was a challenge, had to think it out for a bit, made it across and without sliding down into doom.
Lots of big snow patches left, especially on the southern section.
Happy with my choice today, Nooner looked awesome throughout!

Another pre-sunrise start, I'm getting good at this early am stuff!
The bunnies are now playing frogger on the Swift Trail, many have lost.
Counter-clock loop starting from Noon Creek Picnic Area.
Knee high grass all the way up, place has really greened up.
Upper creek crossing full of wildflowers, everything wet from the rains & good creek flow.
1 hour nature sit break at the waterfall.
Lower 1/2 down just as good.
I always enjoy this trail, it makes me happy!
