We arrived at the Mormon Trailhead @ 7am to beat the heat, I wasn't feeling the best...had that feeling that I was coming down with something, but it hadn't quite taken hold yet, so I was hoping to hike it out of my system (it didn't quite work ) We followed a route Angela (Tibber) has posted on here, but I guess I didn't read her write up first (or read it earlier, but forgot about it by the time we did this), which starts out with "well that wasn't easy"...whoops! So uphill we went! Slow and steady, it wasn't too bad.
When we reached the junction with National, we continued on, making the loop counter-clockwise. I was feeling better by now, and we were headed downhill, so that helped also. Pretty uneventful as we made our way east, then rounded back west on the Javelina trail and uphill once again. We got passed by a couple trail runners, and watched with some dismay as they went up and up (is that our trail??? ), but we took our time and it wasn't as bad as it seemed it would be. Once we reached the junction that would take us back to the parking lot, there is a rocky downhill...large bouldery rocks...and somehow, I mis-stepped, tried to catch myself, over corrected, flailing and falling all at once, and landed hard on my bum (nothing but grace!)...but apparently not before landing harder on my hand. Scraped on one side, and bruising on the other, I brushed it off, but boy did it hurt! (2 weeks later, it still hurt...turns out, I fractured a bone in my wrist. )
We finished up the hike, without any further mis-steps, and headed over to The Farm at South Mountain for a yummy lunch. The following day, the chest cold settled in. Three weeks later, I finally feel back to normal. Time to wrap myself in bubble wrap and head out for another hike! |
