My goal was to do a loop that would allow me to hit the 114th St Trail. Did a loop involving Equestrian Bypass - Latigo - Whiskey Bottle - Watershed - Maverick - Wrangler - Brown's Mountain - Brown's Ranch Road. Lot of trails, but limited miles on some of them. That's one of the great things about this preserve there is an option for just about everyone. The trails were great, well signed and easy to follow. The Latigo was the most challenging since you do gain some elevation as you head east from the TH. The 114th st trail is very short (.2 miles) and only purpose is to serve as an access trail for nearby residence. The Whiskey and Watershed are great trail options that lead into the interior of the park. The Maverick Trail was the "roughest" of the loop. Still in excellent condition, but this preserve is designed with the biker in mind - rocky sections are smooth and elevation changes are gradual - and this trail has a few more rougher edges where other trails have none. (However, this is nothing that you wouldn't see on the the Christiansen #100). The Brown's Ranch Road is one of several tracks that is more road (8 ft wide in many places) than trail. It is more of a straight track with minimal twists and turns. Had a great run. Temps were great for that time of morning. Wildlife consisted of rabbits and chipmunks. Encountered 3 hikers and 16 bikers. |
