Got to the Pima-Dynamite TH about 6:20am and had to wait 10 minutes for the gate to open. Started out on the Powerline Road #1 Trail, then did a clockwise loop going northeast on the Hawknest Trail, then took the Basalt Ridge, Upper Ranch, Hackamore and Latigo Trails back. I had originally planned to do a figure 8 crossing over on one of the unmapped trails, but I forgot about that along my hike in. It would have added only another mile at the most.

Everything is very green right now, and the vegetation is also very high, with pretty big stalks at the base. Could be a lot of fuel come wildfire season. Lots of wildflowers out as well, many patches of poppies once the sun hits.

Mostly bikers out, and trail runners. Hikers don't seem to venture far from the trailheads. The hikers I saw were all within a couple miles of the Pima-Dynamite or the Brown's Ranch trailheads.

A girl hiking the other way along the Upper Ranch Trail had a black dog that she was letting wander up ahead of her and off trail. On the last mile of my hike, two bikers had him on a leash, riding slowly, asking everyone they passed if they lost a dog.

Finished before 11am, the majority of the miles today were trails I had never hiked before.

Another couple of loops in MSPC and MSPN. Started from Fraesfiled TH and did a loop in central area and then a loop in the northern area. Saw a dead coyote :( It was near a road so I guess it was perhaps hit by a vehicle and then moved off to the side near the trail.
Central area was pretty quiet with 2 hikers and 2 bikers. The north was busier with 7 hikers and 15 bikers.

I started at the Fraesfield TH and did the north half of the Gooseneck Trail, along with the Redbird Trail and the various Service Road trails along the way. It took me 2 hours to notice that after I had only seen 1 biker and 2 trail runners that probably because of Easter no one was on the trails today. I saw a few more people the 2nd half of the hike, but still much less than a usual Sunday. This trail isn't bad, it has some nice views of the McDowells and some taller vegetation. Nice to get out for a local hike before the weather gets too hot.

Out this morning to complete more miles needed to hike all trails in Mcdowell Sonoran Preserve. Joining me was Judy, Flat Coats Java and Kai and neighbors Kathy and Larry. Started where Gooseneck Trail crosses 128th Street about 4 miles North of Toms Thumb area. Hiked Gooseneck, several connector trails, Saguaro Nest Trail, Service Road #1, Gooseneck. Quiet morning with one runner and 3 small groups of mountain bikers.
121 of 133 completed
FYI, I need to hike 40 miles TO GET TO THE LAST 12 miles!

ATC Challenge update: 122/133.4

I have now done every trail and every tiny little connector in the Central Region of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. :D Not difficult at all but takes some planning to not back-track and repeat trails.

Service Road #1 :next: Service Road #3 :next: Redbird Trail :next: Gooseneck trail :next: Saguaro Nest Trail :next: county connectors (gets you to Pemberton trail intersection with Delsie trail) :next: Service Road #1.

Redbird Trail is a pretty area and Saguaro Nest trail is relatively lush with lots of palo verde shade and grass underneath the canopy.

Surprised to see about 3 hikers/dog walkers and 6 bikers. Glad that people are starting to learn about this area of the Preserve.
