Kelly and I got out to hike on some trails we hadn't been on in years. Trails are smooth and in great shape. Nice weather. Only saw a dozen or so others out hiking and a handful of mountain bikers.
Coffee and breakfast after. Thanks Kelly. :)

Started from the Fraesfield Trailhead and headed south on the Gooseneck Trail, doing a lasso-Figure8 with the Redbird and Saguaro Nest Trails, heading back on Gooseneck. Clouds to the east provided some early shade, but that went away fairly quickly. It got a bit toasty and humid at times, but the breeezes picked up here and there to cool things off. Saw several bikers along the way but no hikers all morning.

Another solo Friday hike for me...

Starting from the Wagner Trailhead at McDowell Mountain Regional Park (MMRP), I hiked Wagner, left on Granite, right on Bluff, left on Pemberton, right on Rock Knob, right on Gooseneck. When I came to the county park connectors which led back into the park, I took the connector that brought me over to the Saguaro Nest Trail. I hiked a short ways on Saguaro Nest and then (finally) took the connector which brought me back into MMRP. At that point, I got back onto the Pemberton and headed east, turning right on Lariat, then left on Granite. That led me back to Wagner which led me back to my truck.

The trails were in remarkably good shape after the storm that hit the area on Wednesday evening. I didn't see much evidence of serious erosion, though it was obvious that the washes had flowed heavily for a time. I saw a significant amount of water in Granite Tank - probably the most I've ever seen in that tank.

I saw several mountain bikers early on and then one more out on Gooseneck. After that, I saw no one until I got back to the parking area. There, I saw Susan Davis, who used to hike with our group a number of years ago. She still comes to the park, but restricts herself to hiking the roads.

As I was driving out of the park, I saw a dump truck leaving after having dumped a load of sand (presumably from road cleanup) along the side of the park road near the entrance. Just outside the park, I saw other machines working on clearing the section of road where Shallmo Wash crosses the road. On Wednesday evening, I stopped to look at Shallmo Wash from the driveway connecting the Four Peaks / Horse Staging area with the main park road. It looked like a small but turbulent river.

Another couple of loops in MSPC and MSPN. Started from Fraesfiled TH and did a loop in central area and then a loop in the northern area. Saw a dead coyote :( It was near a road so I guess it was perhaps hit by a vehicle and then moved off to the side near the trail.
Central area was pretty quiet with 2 hikers and 2 bikers. The north was busier with 7 hikers and 15 bikers.

After doing little hike and then skinny-dipping in our own pool earlier in the day - - we somehow pulled it together to pack all four of us up for a pre-sunset hike in the Central Region MSP.

We are closing on new house in few days - so the skinny dip in pool mid-day was a way to celebrate and have no regrets policy for old house.

We hiked the Saguaro Nest trail loop and a little bit on Service Road #1 and Gooseneck Trail. Light was awesome. There was one other person out on trail - and she asked if we wanted a family picture - and it turned out to be the most perfect capture of who we are. Later I realized I knew her from IG and she's a MSC Steward - how crazy is that. Got back to car before sunset and had dinner at Twisted Lizard in the neighborhood.

Saw several beautiful deer around the water tank on Gooseneck.

Today I completed all of the 6.5 miles of the Gooseneck Trail. Rather than do a shuttle hike or 13 mile out and back I built it into two loops and this one last section at the North end. Started at the Fraesfield parking lot and followed it SW along Rio Verde Rd and across Rio Verde Rd until intersection with Redbird Trail then returned. This was followed with Trailhead Hosting at Tom's Thumb from 10-noon. Crzy4AZ climbed Tommy Boy while I was there and we visited for a while. Great to see HAZ'ers on the trail.

All Trails Club in McDowell Sonoran Preserve:
123 of 133 completed.
