Not as early as I would have liked, but it turned out the timing couldn’t be much better. Got to the Adero TH around 6am. In time to catch a mini “sprinkle storm”. There’s nothing like the smell of a gently soaked desert. Add to that a steady breeze to start the hike it was almost magical. Perhaps I’m being a bit overly dramatic, but days like this are few and far between which make them all the more special. Also, was fortunate to catch a rainbow that last all of five minutes. It actually started in Adero Canyon and I could see where it started from. Took the Alt. up to the Andrew-Kinsey and then continued on up to Sunrise Peak. The weather was ideal for the first hour, but by 7am the sun was coming out from behind the clouds, the breeze died down and there was a noticeable increase in humidity. Briefly enjoyed the views at the peak before descending via the eastern leg and then looping back on the Sunrise Trail (basically doing a mini loop below Sunrise Peak) to reconnect to the Andrew-Kinsey.

Really enjoyed today’s hike, especially early on. No wildlife today, but quite a few hikers. Encountered 26 hikers and two joggers.

This was a hike from the Adero Canyon TH that was composed of 5 different loops -- enough to make @The_Eagle green with envy!

Trail Sequence: TH>Promenade>Andrews-Kinsey>Alternate>Promenade>Sonoran>South Crossover>Lower Sonoran>North Crossover>Sonoran>Wilderness>Western>Promenade>Mesquite Hollow>Mesquite Spur>Mesquite Hollow>Sonoran>South Crossover>Lower Sonoran>Promenade>TH

There was something blooming throughout most of the hike: brittlebush, chuparosa, poppies, scorpion weed, fiddlenecks, blue richards, and ocotillo were what I noticed the most

My first Thanksgiving Day hike with this crew. Remembering some of their past triplogs, wind and cold seemed to be the theme. The temps were perfect but the wind made an appearance. A 6:30 start in the dark gave way to a colorful sunrise.

The trail showed signs of damage from the recent deluges, but I'm sure it'll be back to it's near paved appearance in no time.

Good to see JJ and Ray Ray again... It's been awhile, and to meet TBoneKathy.

Happy Thanksgiving all.

Got out to hike with the Turtle after a morning appt, starting just before the crack of 10am. Temps were perfect and the crowds were light on our way to the peak. The Ocotillo were in bloom and the only color observed other than the brown and green desert hues.

Every time I'm out here there's more and more building and less green space. I do like the manicured trails and views.

Good catching up with the Turtle, it's been awhile. Like HAZ, :yr:

We got started around 0630 and quickly realized none of the five of us knew quite exactly where we were supposed to be going, especially in the dark. The one person who had been here before had gotten a head start and was somewhere ahead of us on the trail. Determined to not have to call for rescue while standing at the trailhead, we figured it out within a few minutes and were soon heading up the Andrews-Kinsey trail. I thought temps felt great, others disagreed.

Great trail to ascend—mostly smooth with a gradual incline. Nice views of the mountains and sunrise. The final climb up to Sunrise Peak is steep & rocky, but goes by quickly. Met up with Denny at the top and spent a few minutes chatting, taking pics, and trying not to get recruited into buying nutrition shakes. Breezy up top.

Having a full day of cooking looming, I opted to skip the over & back portion, and instead headed back down with Denny. The downhill miles flew by quickly and we were finished in no time. Saw a handful of hikers on the way down, all very friendly. Happy Thanksgiving to all!

I took a walk with a turtle. Beautiful weather, perfect temps (other than a tad windy). Denny had never done Sunrise Peak from this TH, so this was his suggestion.

Great catching up and comparing ailments.

Let's do this more often sir.

With afternoon plans, I needed something close-ish.

I'd never been on on the Andrews-Kinsey Trail, so I through this together from the Lost Dog Wash TH.

The lower portion of the Sunrise Trail has never been a favorite of mine. Rocky and boring. Once you hit the saddle with the 136th street junction things get better.

Up on the Sunrise Peak, there was a half a dozen people. The eastern peak was open and I took a short break there.

The Andrews-Kinsey Trail is a super highway where you rarely have to look down at your feet it is so smooth.
This trail is worth a check if you are in the area, great views to the east and south.

The Western Loop Trail gains quite a bit of elevation, but is not too bad because of all the switchbacks. Also worth checking out.

Drop dead gorgeous weather. The trails were not too crowded.
