| partners | | Started our hike down South Kaibab Trail at 6:25am. Really nice hike, wish I could have made it for sunrise. The shuttle bus did not leave early enough, first run is at 6am for April. Had lunch at the river and went only knee high in the water, for it's freezing cold.
After lunch we headed up the Bright Angel Trail back to the rim. We made it up to Indian Garden in 2 hours and took a short break. The last 4.5 miles took us 3 hours, with lots of stops for pictures and short breathers. The last 3 miles is the toughest section of the trail.
I wish I would have known this hike was going to be easier than expected, I had to many people go overkill on rating this route. Because of that, I packed way to much food and water thinking I'll be out on the trail longer than planned. I was told by numerous people that average time to get up Bright Angel Trial is 8-9 hours. That's a joke.
I wore a Camelbak and hipbag for the hike to carry everything I needed. I had two 2 liter water bladders for the hike. I never depleted my first 2 liter water bladder before refill at the Bright Angel Campground or Indian Garden. I also had a ~32 fluid ounce water bottle for mixing the Gatorade. So I carried an extra water bladder for nothing.
Whatever, it's better to have it when you don't need it then to not have it when you need it. Next time I'll know better on the packing situation.
This is the most awesome hike I've done so far. Can't wait to do the rim to rim hike. |
