Chris and I started our hike to Tony's Ranch from the Haunted Canyon Trail Head off 287A (very small parking area, about 3 cars)
The drive through the mine area on 287 was pretty easy navigating thanks to all the signs and 287A was in good shape just a bit narrow of a road.
We started out at 7:30 in the morning and it was cold, there was a thin layer of ice on the tank at Grapevine Spring which you pass shortly up the trail.
The hike is a gradual climb up to a saddle with Government Hill to the West and then a gradual descent down into Haunted Canyon passing a large tank at the junction with the Paradise Trail and about a mile further you pass the junction with the Bull Basin trail.
When we arrived at the ranch we found two guys camping right by the Cabin's front door with a camp fire, right by the the sign that says no camping, no fires.
After visiting the Cabin and taking some pictures we headed back down the canyon to have lunch before our climb back out.
This is a beautiful area and I plan on doing a backpack next time so I can have more time to explore more of the area.

My good friend Trent, who just got of the Army after five years, wanted to go on a backpacking trip, so I took him to see the ruins in Rogers Canyon that never disappoint.
We started from the Woodbury Trailhead and headed up the JF Trail, the weather could not have been any nicer. After a quick lunch at the junction of the JF Trail and Rogers Canyon trail we headed on down to Angle Basin, very over grown with catclaw, :x very bloody.
Plenty of water in Angle Basin from the heavy rains last weekend and only one other camper, so we set up camp and started searching for fire wood, more catclaw but hardly any wood to be found. Got a little chile at night, about 38 degrees. It was good to get caught up with him around the fire.
The next morning we headed over to the ruins for about 1/2 hour, They did not disappoint.
We continued up Rogers Canyon to Rogers Trough Tailhead and down 172a to the crosscut to Woodbury. A very sceenic loop, a great trip to take a good friend on who has been gone a while.

Not wanting to miss out again on Hippy's Reavis adventure my dog Timmy and I hiked in with Tibber on Saturday morning. The parking lot was over flowing so I had to park my truck on the edge of the road, well pretty much on the road and on a ledge not good.
The hike in from the north trail head was long but with great views and great company made it enjoyable. Once at the ranch we had some trouble finding the group but thanks to Tibber talking to some Hikers/Hunters that had encountered Hippy led us in the right direction.
When we got to the camp site we made our introductions to everyone and got to the task of pumping some water out of the creek bed when and Timmy and I got a big surprise from Lees dogs Blanco and Cupcake, not knowing if they were friendly or not my heart rate jumped a bit, but they were very friendly dogs and we enjoyed them very much at camp.
After a very entertaining night around the fire Timmy and I hit the sack to a nice light rain that was off and on through the night.
Sunday morning Tibber Timmy and I headed out after saying our goodby's and started are long hike out to the north trail head.
It was really good to see old faces and meet some new ones. Hope to see everyone again out on the trail.

This is one of the best hikes I have done, the views into Cherry Creek and the surrounding canyons are just breath taking.
I will say the beginning of the trail is quite steep but once on top of the mountain the walking is very enjoyable.

Chris and I started out from the Circle Ranch Trail Head through a nice cover of trees and cool morning air. The trail soon passed a small canyon which was quite interesting as we approached the head of the canyon, It would be really something to see after a heavy rain. The trail became more exposed as we started to gain elevation and the temps began to rise, it reached 95 degrees by the time we made it to the top of Mcfadden. The views were incredible from the peak. We spoke to the fire watch guy briefly, He informed us you are not allowed in the tower according to HSA, oh well. He liked to talk about murder cases, kind of freaky, He was on oxygen, maybe not enough. We encountered a bunch of Lady Bugs under the tower where we had lunch. They were crawling all over us. The tower guy told us they were from Phoenix and I asked him if they were on vacation, and it went right over his head. After lunch we headed back down and took an old forest road to complete a loop back to the trail head. We came across a couple of old mines which were pretty cool but it was just to hot to stay very long. Over all this was a great hike that does not see a lot of use. I highly recommend it.

This is one of my favorite Arizona hikes, the trail is easy to follow and a lot of shade.
The hike up to Horton Spring was very enjoyable, the temperature was just perfect at 67 degrees. My wife Mary and I stop and enjoyed the creek several times as did our dog Timmy. After four miles you come to the spring gushing out of the side of the rim, a real treat after the hike up. Since it was a gradual climb, coming back is a breeze. Great day under the rim.

This trail is very easy to follow since it's an old road and the views just get better and better with 4100 foot elevation gain, and so does the temperature. The towers on top are huge, they look so small from the 87. Once on top we encountered a group of Boy Scouts camping out, Wally was sitting in the shade and was overrun by the scouts wanting his spot, Wally, being the gentlemen he is, refrained from assaulting them. Chris, Wally and I sat and had lunch under one of the towers and laughed about the radiation we were probably getting. We wanted to climb the lookout tower but the sign advised otherwise so we passed. We headed back down and passed another hiking group(Take a Hike)on their way up. I'm glad we started early because it was getting warm on the way back down.

I was planning on hiking the Horton Creek Derrik loop, but as I was driving up the 87 Tonto Basin was covered in smoke, Poco Fire, Young AZ. After turning on to the 260 the closer I got to Horton Creek trail head the less visibility there was so I turned around and went to the Pine trail head. The air quality was much better. The morning temperature was pleasant and half a mile in on the Pineview trail I spotted two Doe up on the hill in the trees, very nice. The first mile of the Highline trail is a little steep but shaded, as you progress it becomes more open, great for views not so much on a hot day as it turned out to be. I went out past the Red Rock Spring (no spring to be found except a empty tank)a short ways before heading back and going up the Donahue trail to Milk Ranch Point. The trail was easy to follow and not too difficult other than the heat. Once on top, the views were great looking down at the town of Pine. After wondering around on top, I headed back to the trail head very hot and very sweaty.

Getting up at 3:30 in the morning to hike with Chris and Wally ( you know Chris, 5:20 meet at my house) is not an easy thing for me to do but when you know your going to such a beautiful place as See Canyon it is worth it. I tried to get Wally to sit up front so he could read the Map for Chris and get yelled at but no, I was bestowed the honor. Sure enough we got turned around going into Christopher Creek and ended up back out to the 260, it was like an episode of the Twilight Zone. Anyways we found the road to the trail head which we got kind of turned around there too, but did end up finding the See Canyon Trail and headed up canyon, first to the spring or springs I should say since we saw two of them, one coming out of a tree stump.
We left the springs and headed up the canyon which slowly got steeper as we ascended but the canyon has a great canopy of trees so the hiking was fairly cool and extremely beautiful with the creek and foliage. The trail itself is fairly easy to follow except for some downed trees in sections.
Once on top we came to Forest Road 300 where we had lunch in the dust, the 300 seemed like the 260 with all the cars going by.
The track we were following took us along the 300 for a while and then turned south off trail a mile or so to hook up with the Drew Trail, from there we descended to the Highline Trail, which is turning out to be one of my favorite trails, back to the trail head.
