What a beautiful day for a hike!

I had the company of some awesome peeps, everyone did amazing, and we got what we were looking for in a challenging, but rewarding hike. And successfully carrying 40-45 lbs. of child and essentials in a too small pack made it that much more satisfying. I was not looking forward to it, but how else was I supposed to make it to the top? Added bonus, the kiddo did great! I am really looking forward to the day when she will be carrying me!

We started from a different spot than in the past. It adds a couple miles, but they are some very pretty miles. And with all the moisture we have had this winter, everything was green and flowers were blooming.

Couldn't have picked a more perfect time to tackle this hike. We have had some great moisture for the past month or so now, and the weather was absolutely gorgeous for the weekend. The trail conditions couldn't have been much better, considering the punishment they must have taken. The snow had already melted off at the top and the mud was not terrible. The Tonto Trail is faint as usual, but we managed to keep track of it easy enough. Boucher Trail was pretty beat up after all the weather, but still whole. The water was glorious! When there was not a small stream flowing in the creek beds at or near the trail crossings, there were plenty of potholes full of water. Had a fantastic hiking partner, met some great people, and really just had the time of my life!

The falls was amazing!

I had been really wanting to get out there after all the moisture we have been getting. I had been once before, but the falls was just a trickle. I was trying to plan it with several people, which also would have allowed me to carry my 3 year old in with me. Nothing worked out, so I had to go on my own. Boy did that turn out to be a blessing in disguise. The trail to Reavis Creek was in great condition. Would have been a tough hike with 30+ extra pounds, but good conditioning for some hikes coming up. The creek bed however, would not have been doable with a 3 year old, on or off the back. Lots of bushwacking, route finding, climbing, and rock and log hopping. Finished off my trusty hiking shirt, and a pretty unforgiving branch reminded me to take my hat off when I need to be more aware of what is around my head.

All in all, Awesome!! and worth it.

Took the MCC Adventure Association on a little adventure today! Started with a nice hike up to the top of Picacho Peak, and followed it up with an exploration of Peppersauce Cave. We nearly had the cave all to ourselves, having run into only one other group. Everyone did fantastic, with a couple of the people in our group facing, and conquering, their fears.

Beautiful day for a hike! Mostly clear and sunny day after approximately 24 hours of rain. Route finding skills are necessary, but there is a light use-trail on the not-so-rocky areas, making it a little easier to choose how to make your way along. Plenty of loose rocks and scrambling, especially the first half of the ridgeline. Went with 2 friends and carried my 3 year old. All went well and had a great time!
