A nice afternoon hike out to the last overlook before the trail begins descending down to the canyon bottom. Took a nice break and enjoyed one of the best views in the Supes! Looking forward to hiking to the Box again soon!!

I followed some old cairns on the hills behind the Wedding Cake to see if they went into Ermahgerd. It looked like they did but there's a better way so I headed back and checked out that route!

I hadn't been up Turks in several years and since we got a late start we decided to give it a try. This really is a great hike with some really great views towards the mountain but also some great scenes along the "trail" to the top. We even had a visitor on the way down! The sunset was awesome and we got back to the car just before we needed the flashlights!!

Working my way back up to the Ridgeline! We stopped about 2.5 miles up the canyon from the trailhead and enjoyed the surroundings, a couple cold ones and another beautiful day!

This is also known as the Wedding Cake. After looking down at it so many times from up in Chuparosa Canyon, we finally decided to check it out! The trail off Lost Goldmine is easy to follow and provides a nice workout to get to the middle layer. It's about another 10 minutes to the top from there and the views are worth it!

Had a fun day meeting up with Pam for the first time in a long time! I wanted to show her the way into Chuparosa Canyon and hopefully see some water flowing and hummingbirds buzzing around. There wasn't enough rain to get things flowing but the pools were filled back up after being empty a few days earlier. We still had a great time poking around above the falls, talking and taking pictures. The hummingbirds were taking their mid-day siesta because we only saw a few, but that should change soon since everything is getting ready to bloom!

This hike is rough!! And gets rougher as you go! There's a faint route and it can disappear fast! It's totally worth it!! There used to be a canyoneering video of this online, but check out some of the other HAz photosets for that!

Tuesday was a good day to try the Flatiron for the first time since the Mining Camp burned down! It hasn't gotten any easier!! :D

It was a beautiful, cool, crisp day for starting at Lost Dutchman State Park. Didn't see many people on the trail before I got to the Basin, but a dozen or so passed me on the way to the top! I actually had the Flatiron to myself when I got there though! Walked the perimeter, took a break above Monument Canyon and then headed back. A few were still heading up even after 2:00. The hike down was tough too but I made it by going slow!

I was sore yesterday but feel pretty good today! Will have to give this another shot soon and then try to hit the Ridgeline again!

Since it was free State Park day I took some friends who had never done Siphon Draw before. Of course the parking lot was packed, but the trail wasn't too bad! We climbed up just past the basin, went over to the area above the falls and enjoyed a few cold ones, took some pix and just enjoyed the day together!

Finally got back up Hiero to check out the stuff I saw last month: the rock hut and the huge saguaro up by Balancing Rock that I had never noticed before last time (I'm calling it King Tut for fun!).

The off-trail climb to the hut was a good workout! Loose stuff covered by grass and bushes. The hut wasn't nearly as cool as the one we found in Spirit Canyon. Basically just an illusion from down on the trail which is what I expected but I still had to see if it had a flat floor like Spirit Canyon. And no!

I came back down Hiero but stayed high and went off-trail towards the Balancing Rock route, followed it up until I could cut over towards Tut. It's almost as high up as Balancing Rock so it was a rugged off-trail journey! He's a big boy but not quite as big as the one that was on the way to Charlebois or the one that was along Lost Goldmine near Carney. And it has a severe lean so who knows how much longer it will last, as if 200+whatever-years isn't enough!?!

Came down that first ridge that goes up/east from the big pool/petroglyphs. Had a fun day exploring and wearing myself out!!

My friend wanted to go hiking with me for the first time and I wanted to see if I could spot the herd of bighorn FOTG saw a few days ago.

It was a beautiful, crisp day and there was still frost in some areas at 10:30am. We made it back to the still flowing falls and just hung out in the sun with some snacks. Something caught my eye up towards the base of 3845 and it was a group of bighorn! They came down fairly close to have their own lunch and then wandered over to a shelf to lay down. We took a lot of pictures then headed out so they could come down to the water, but we could have stayed all day to watch them!!

I wanted to re-familiarize myself with the trail going up the canyon and do a little poking around. Very windy on the way in at 9:30! Went as far as the first set of "falls" and looked for a way over to the slick rock area below Peak 4546 on the Hog/Hiero ridgeline. Looks like it could be really cool but the brush was too thick and I was short on time. Gonna need to find a better way across next time! Got back to the glyphs around 1:30 and was surprised to find nobody there!! So I took the opportunity to get close-ups of all the petroglyphs which I had never done in all the times I've been there! Didn't see anyone heading in until I was near the boundary gate!!

After seeing the falls pouring into the top of Chuparosa Canyon recently, I had to go up and take a look around! Hiero>Balanced Rock>towards 5057. At about 4000 ft. where the summit trail shoots left up thru the cliffs this route goes straight and off trail. Stay high and left of the saguaro skeleton for pockets in the cliffs and 3915 (previous trip). Today I went down towards the low spot above Chuparosa. After seeing the flow at the petroglyphs on the way up I thought there might be more action here today, but nope, just a trickle! It was still worth it!!

Whether you go up to 5057 or towards 3915 this route is tough, challenging and awesome!!

Got a little bit of a late start, arriving at Mining Camp just before 9:00. There were a few hikers below the Basin but after that I had the climb to myself except for a couple people coming down. Legs were feeling pretty heavy again but managed to top-out above the wall right on two hours. Took the horseshoe trail around to the southside of Flatiron and let my pack dry in the sun.

The wind was up too which meant my favorite birds were zooming around! Got some great fly-bys today! Spent an hour just watching them go by! Before heading down I climbed the ridge directly east of Flatiron just to poke around up by the hoodoos. Saw some people going up and got passed by a few going down, but traffic on the trail was still very light.

I hadn't been up Carney or to the Roost in over a year so when Linda got the afternoon free and with the forecast looking great, we made the climb. Luckily we had clouds and a pretty nice breeze all the way up because it was kicking my butt! While I was busy panting, Linda spotted a lone Big Horn below the lower saddle. He posed on some boulders before wandering off. Somehow with all my stops we still made it to the upper saddle in under two hours from Lost Goldmine TH.

We decided the area from the upper saddle to the Roost has to be one of the coolest places around! Pine trees, hoodoos and pure Supes beauty! I would love to spend a couple days up there to explore off-trail places.

We had fun checking out the Roost, then headed over to have a look across Peralta at the Cave Trail before heading up past the surf board and over to Fremont. We made good time to Fremont and wondered why that well-marked and worn trail doesn't have a proper name?

Amazingly we saw nobody at Fremont! And other than four people out on the Ridgeline, we didn't see anybody else all day! It had been awhile since I was on the Cave Trail so Linda got to lead the way. It was fun acting concerned that we were gonna get lost! :D Below the bathtub we followed some cairns east that looked like they lead down into Barks. We decided to save that route for another day and made our way down Cave Trail. We kept looking across the canyon in amazement at the hoodoos by the Roost where we had come from.

No snakes, no people! Cloudy and breezy! Another great day in the Supes!

The plan was to hike Flatiron but when I exited at Idaho Rd. I could barely see the mountains! By the time I got to Mining Camp at 11:00 I needed the wipers for a heavy drizzle. There weren't many people heading up but quite a few coming down. Someone said they saw snow flurries on top! The Basin was completely wet so I decided to call off the ascent.

Coming down I noticed some caves high up on the cliffs up above Palmer Mine area. I went off-trail up to the cliff base to investigate. Turned out to be pretty cool with a whole new perspective of Siphon Draw!

A fun day trying to keep up with Linda in more new territory for me! The weather was perfect and the trails were empty (until wear got near the spring).

Climbing up Promontory Butte was a good challenge! Of course as soon as we got up the wind started howling, so we didn't stay long! But what a view! Going back down wasn't as bad as we thought it would be on the steep, loose, pine-needle-covered trail, so pretty soon we were off to the spring.

What a cool spot! You can't go wrong with water gushing out from under a pile of boulders to form a beautiful creek! We enjoyed the hike back, stopping to take pictures along the way of course! Thanks Linda for driving and being tour guide again!!
