Mike and I got a late start but still managed to get this hike done while hanging out in Bisbee. Wonderful views and the trail is in great condition and effortless to follow. Certainly a good amount of gain and so many "drop-offy" areas to pay attention to. Mike is in recovery mode from a freak bike crash the day while we were biking in Rincon Valley before that left him impaled on a barrel cactus and pinned in an ocitillo but you would not have known by watching him climb this mountain! The needles in his leg will eventually pop out! Great hike but freezing at the top! Glad we did it!

I told te_wa we needed to get back in to the Supes and revisit some areas we haven't been to for a while and I wanted to do Geronimo Head again!

Te_wa and I have spent more time on our bikes this Summer than in our hiking boots. This was a different kind of terrain for us at a higher elevation so the challenge was there. More huffing and puffing in the thinner air was "fun". The narrow, winding path with higher drop offs were a wee more intimidating for me but Mike handled it like a boss!

My first trip into West Fork. I cannot believe I have been hiking around AZ for 11 years and I have not been back in here yet. I only fell in the creek once. Thanks te-wa for helping me get back up!

I wanted to get a glimpse of the massive Bush Fire but stay close to town so I chose to do it from Thompson Peak. Coming across Dixie Mine trail is less than exciting but once you hit that steep service road, you have no choice but to be engaged in the task ahead of you. There's no route finding necessary and no treacherous exposed areas to be concerned with but that climb up that road will definitely remind you that this hike is for leg day!

I found out about the ruins through a crappy 3 minute YouTube video, shared the info with Mike, he did some sleuthing, I did some sleuthing, we put our heads together, I relied on his instincts and BAM! Found what we were looking for!
Awesome find!!!

New River Path runs 13.5 miles from Happy Valley Rd & 75th Ave to south of Glendale Ave and 99th with connections to the Arizona and Grand Canals. It isn't as picturesque as the Greenbelt that runs through Scottsdale but it is a good option for in town biking, especially if you live in or are near the west valley. I prefer to run North to South snd, when time allows, take in a section of the AZ Canal.

Vivian Creek Trail to San Gorgonio summit. te_wa and I started this hike at 6:40 am and made it back to the car around 5:00. The weather could not have been better. Definitely some higher wind gusts the closer we got to the summit but nothing brutal.
The altitude of Gorgonio picked at us more than the altitude of Mt Charleston (Nevada) that we did last year. We both felt more tingly and loopy and joked about hitting up an oxygen bar on our way home.
This was a beautiful hike as it showcases the natural resources that are so abundant in CA! We had awesome views of San Jacinto, the mountain we tried to summit last year before it kicked us off less than two miles from the summit with a freak snowstorm! Jerk! I couldn't stop looking at it from Gorgonio! For me personally, Jacinto was far more challenging than Gorgonio but that isn't to say this was easy peasy...it isn't! But Mike and I are a great team out there and we made sure we reached that summit and got back down relatively unscathed!

The Indian Bend Wash Greenbelt is a 15 mile multiuse paved path that connects Scottsdale to Tempe while passing through multiple parks, golf courses, lakes and lavish neighborhoods. I prefer to start at 92nd and Shea and make my way to and around Tempe Town Lake. The path is in perfect condition and is generous with over and underpasses to help avoid traffic and intersections. This is my favorite in town route!

I have had these ruins on my radar for some time and then I realized you can hike to the summit of Loy Butte above them! OK! Why not?
Well, the ruins do require a bit of a scramble to reach the first set but getting up to the butte required more scramble and exposure than I was expecting! We didn't feel too comfortable following the suggested route so we went farther south and scrambled up some crazy desert flora, loose rock, steep cliff hugging, bushwacking madness. As unsettling as that was, I still preferred it to climbing a too vertical wall that would leave me with major boo boos if I lost my footing!
I will say that we did end up coming down the suggested route but found some loopholes to help avoid some of those sheer cliff areas.

I have wanted to experience these magnificent ruins for quite sometime so I took advantage of the opportunity that presented itself! FR203 is in really bad shape the closer you get to where you begin your journey that drops down into Cherry Creek. This is also where you would start the hike to Pueblo Canyon and Coon Creek.
Cherry Creek was flowing and refreshing as we made our way along its banks before we started climbing. Getting to these magnificent structures wasn't AS bad as I was expecting but that, in no way, means I felt it was easy! There is clinbing, there is bushwacking, there is route finding and, as is common for me, there might be the tearing of skin here and there!
I think the bonus of this hike was, what I would imagine to be, some sort of defensive lookout below the ruins but so well camouflaged by the surrounding natural structures. Getting up to it was one thing, getting down was another, at least the way we did it. It was also obvious the location chosen for this fort was intentional as you could see directly across the way to Pueblo Canyon, Cooper Forks Canyon and up and down the creek. These people, for many reasons, were brilliant!

Red Tank Draw is red rock canyon that drains Rarick Canyon and other canyons on the rim into Wet Beaver Creek. It was a travel route for the Sinagua people several hundred years ago and they were kind enough to leave their artistic attributes along the walls of the canyon for modern man to appreciate! I captured only a few before the bugs and the heat kicked me out!

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this hike! I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. With that being said, holy switchbacks! Seriously, there are 33 tight switchbacks to the top! In spite of that, I am only disappointed it took me this long to actually do this hike even though I've known about it for years!

The Verde Hohokam built this village on top of St Clair Mountain around 1100 and 1300 A.D. It is also known as Brazaletes Pueblo, named by an excavator who found numerous bracelets on an arm bone during an excavation of the site back in the 1960s. Many of the bracelets found were made with shells from the Sea of Cortez.
Based on research, the pueblo contained 92 rooms scattered across the summit and surrounding slopes. The area was also a burial site.
The trek to reach the ruins isn't long but there are some steep sections. Many of the foundations are being consumed by nature's plant life but one can certainly still explore them. I suggest good shoes and either pants or high socks!
I found countless pieces of pottery but no glyphs. They're supposed to be there, I looked everywhere, to no avail! In spite of that it was still a cool spot to explore.
