Re: Cherry Creek Rd FR 203
@Grasshopper
I am looking forward to that and feel free to hold me to that statement, as my opinion has not wavered. In fact, if I were FS, I would just leave boulder in road, as it is after Devils Chasm and the proposed location of the Cherry Creek Rd. closure. However, while the road still remains open, it would be nice to know for planning a hike and choosing a car camping spot this weekend...Why do you care? I thought you were one who was looking forward to forever walking it!

@friendofThundergod
I called the Pleasant Valley District however they are only open Thursdays 7:45-Noon & 1:00-4:30
So I called the Payson District and got a number. I asked Gary if he knew if the huge boulder on Cherry Creek from two weeks ago was removed. He said things wouldn't be much better and asked where I was going. No clue, lol, I said Devil's Chasm. He said it should be okay from the south to Devil's but forget the north. He said something like they aren't devoting maintenance out there currently. They are trying to get the road aligned out of the wilderness ( I don't know if that's new news or not I haven't read the drama thread ). Anyhow, I'd imagine where ever this boulder is that "they" haven't moved it. If you want Gary's number message me or call Payson.

Re: Cherry Creek Rd FR 203
@joebartels Thanks Joe, that's about all I needed! Ya my suspicion would be that boulder is not being removed, if it is in fact past where they want to close the road. Does not really impact hiking in area, car camping on the other hand...

Re: Cherry Creek Rd FR 203
Regarding the boulder blocking FR203 just north of Devil's Chasm. I talked to a guy driving a blue 4x4 Tacoma down FR203 on April 11, 2017, who had just been up to Pueblo Canyon. He was able to drive around the boulder to get to the Pueblo Cny Ruins TH. His Taco looked stock and he didn't seem the type to abuse his ride like a certain HAZer who also drives a blue Taco. Google Earth now has a Feb 24, 2017 image of that part of the Sierra Ancha and you can see the boulder.
Update: I just looked at the original photo of the boulder posted by Johnnie and find it hard to believe that guy drove his Taco around it unless someone moved the boulder.

Re: Cherry Creek Rd FR 203
@Oregon_Hiker I saw a picture of someone going around it from about three months ago now. Someone came out and just dug into the bank on the side of the boulder not bordering the drop off and made more room to pass there, it looks like machinery was used. I guess moving the boulder was out of the question, so they just made the road wider...lol

Re: Cherry Creek Rd FR 203
Maybe Ellison Ranch https://hikearizona.com/dexcoder.php?PID=1632240 did the road widening as they own a front loader tractor.. Some have used their tractor assistance to cross Cherry CreekfriendofThundergod wrote:..it looks like machinery was used.
