In contrast to the castle above are these small little homes built into the hillside with their chimney pipes. It looks like these little houses are still lived in but I don't know for sure. They seemed to be in the "kept-up" mode but I don't know if that's because their on the Camino and volunteers keep the curbside appeal going.

THE CASTLE Another of the most important historical events that took place in the castle of Castrojeriz is centred on Leonor de Castilla, Queen of Aragon. After the death of her husband in 1336, Leonor fled to the kingdoms of Castile and León with her children for fear of Pedro IV, her late husband's son. It was not until years later that her nephew Pedro I captured her and imprisoned her in Castrojeriz Castle, where she was murdered in 1358.
