TOP: Just before the bridge, we passes the hermitage of San Nicolás, built in the 13th century in a transitional style between Romanesque and Gothic. This building belonged to the village of Puente Fitero, which has now disappeared. In the 1990s, the hermitage was saved from ruin by the "Confraternita di San Jacopo di Compostella" based in Perugia (Italy), and is currently a refuge for pilgrims.
LL: cross the Pisuerga River via the Fitero Bridge, this river being the geographical boundary between the provinces of Burgos and Palencia. It is one of the longest bridges on the Camino de Santiago, with eleven ashlar arches.
LR: cousin Wendy on the bridge that was built by order of Alfonso VI of León . It is a construction from the 11th century, remodeled in the 17th century respecting its original Romanesque style. (I don't think we realized how old that bridge was; it's held up well).
