I found this quite fascinating and it was so nice that they have this for us to see instead of using our imagination.

The temple of San Martín de Tours was declared a Historic-Artistic Monument in 1894 and, immediately afterwards, Manuel Aníbal Álvarez was entrusted with its restoration to prevent its ruin. The church had been closed twenty years earlier for not offering guarantees of safety for the parishioners.

The origin of almost all the structural problems was the bell tower, which was demolished. During the 15thC., the church underwent various additions, including an extension of the bell tower over the current Romanesque dome . These works overloaded the construction with weight. Because of this weakness, it was necessary to build an independent tower to reach the bell tower.
This stress and a gradual lack of maintenance, the construction suffered a progressive deterioration, so at the end of the 19thC. and beginning of the 20thC. an emergency intervention was advised.
