UL is looking back at Collegiate church of Santa Maria del Manzano. Saint Mary of the Apple may strike you as a strange name for a church ("manzano" meaning apple), but it's said the Virgin Mary appeared one day by an apple tree and the church was built on the same spot beginning in 1214.
The other three photos are from Iglesia de Santo Domingo - Centro de Interpretación del Camino de Santiago
This church has three naves and is built in the Gothic style, although the vaults and main altarpiece, in the neoclassical style, date from the 18th century. Highlights include the façade in the Spanish Plateresque style from the second half of the 16th century.
There are two skull and crossbones at the Parish Church of Santo Domingo. Inscription over the carving reads "O ETERNITAS" and the past “O Mors”.
The Gothic doorway of the second Spanish Plateresque half of the sixteenth century.
Actually, the church houses the "Interpretation Center of the Camino de Santiago IACOBEUS", a didactic museum belonging to the tourist project "4 Villas de Amaya".
Founded at the end of the 14th century after a donation from Catherine of Lancaster, the current construction dates back to the 17th century.
