Huge granaries are spread throughout Tierra de Campos. On the right: It was a silo and now it's a cinema at
Torquemada, in the Cerrato region of Palencia, where it converted an old agro-industrial facility into a cultural centre.

The silos are tall, almost always cream-coloured and until the mid-nineties they were managed by the National Service of Agricultural Products (SENPA), an organisation that replaced the National Cereal Service in 1971 and which, among other functions, managed these infrastructures that functioned as grain reservoirs in a market, that of wheat, monopolistic and controlled by the State until Spain's entry into the EU and European regulations changed the situation. USA silos or grain elevators are either private or corporate owned.

Those enormous silos that, for the most part, have not been used for what they were conceived for decades. In some places they are demolished and in others they are converted into hotels that even include astronomical observatories.
