| no partners | | I have wanted to backpack this trail around the Pinalenos for many years now but the Forest Service keeps telling me year after year that it is in bad shape and advises against it. After going over my maps I have decided to just break it down into smaller segments and hike it one at a time. Today's trip was from Noon Creek to Marijilda Creek. Started from the Noon creek picnic grounds and made my way up to the Round the Mountain T, hung a right and climbed up the switchbacks to the saddle. Crossed over the saddle to some very impressive views of Marijilda Canyon & the Gila valley below! Hiked down the many switchbacks for another mile to arrive at Marijilda Creek and spent the next 1/2 hour just checking out the many small waterfalls in this area. I then turned around and headed back up to the saddle stopping for awhile to watch a HUGE storm cloud move over the town below as the snow started falling all around me. It snowed on me most of the hike but nothing heavy until I got back up to the saddle and it didn't let up until I got back down to 5000 feet. Made it back to my truck and drove home happy to know I've got the first 3.5 miles of this trail now in the books! |
