| no partners | | The plan today was to drive up the back side of the mountain and do a snow hike down Snow Flat road to the pond. 25 yards down Snow Flat road, I realized I was going to need snow shoes to complete this one which I did not bring. Frustrated I headed back down the mountain stopping briefly at Wet Canyon for a few pics before driving down & parking at Angle Orchard for a hike up to Adams Flat. I made it up to the flat in short time and spent about a 1/2 hour just enjoying the creek before heading back down. Made a quick stop down to Jacobson creek and a little ways up the ladybug trail before returning back to my truck.
As I usually do on the way home from the mountain, I made a stop at Roper Lake State Park (or Dankworth) to log my trip. At the park there are a pair of breeding great horned owls that I am sometimes able to view. Tonight they were both out in the open and I was able to get a pic of them both which is rare. This made up for my failed Snow Flat hike!!!
Went back tonight - 01/11/11 - and shot a video of one of them hooting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJZBY6N8JO0 |
