| no partners | | I did this from the Jacob's Crosscut TH. This was my first time up the Flatiron. I've always kind of avoided it since it's such a popular hike but I figured it might get less traffic on a Monday.
The hike and scramble is definitely the highlight of doing this one (the scenery in the ravine is amazing at times). I didn't think the view at the top was all that spectacular-- I guess I'm not a huge fan of the Apache Junction skyline. It was fun but I'll probably only do it again as part of the ridgeline.
There were a lot of folks heading up as I was coming out-- many looking totally unprepared and many that made me wonder how they were going to get up that thing. I think today was the first time I've ever seen someone wearing skinny jeans on a hike. If it was like this on a Monday, I wonder how there's not a helicopter lifting someone out every weekend. Luckily all the early birds like me that I met on the way were nice and friendly-- the afternoon crowd was something else.
Final note to guy with his ipod speakers on: next time you will get hurt... yes, that's a threat. I will not be subjected to Linkin Park while hiking (or ever for that matter). |
