What do you do when half of AZ is on fire and the mogollon rim closes down and you need a last minute hike? You go up Humphreys with apparently the rest of Arizona. It was mega crowded today-- maybe it was normal but I've never seen that many people on any trail ever.

We headed up the trail and took off to the bomber crash site. There was another couple guys checking it out. We looked around and made our way back to the trail. Humphreys always seems like a pretty short hike to me. Then we got above the tree line and the altitude was affecting me a little more than last time I was up there-- nothing too bad and I found if I stopped and acclimated every now and then, it would be much better.

We headed back down and quickly ran into Teva and the Eagle who had come in from the Inner Basin. We had originally walked straight past each other before we realized who was who-- hiking tunnel vision. :D

We continued without problem but unfortunately a woman had fallen on the trail and hurt her ankle. Luckily for her, she had fallen right in front of local hiking guru Charles Liu (author of 60 Hikes in 60 Miles) and he was bandaging her up as we came by. He had a radio and some people near the trailhead on the other end. By the time we got back down, paramedics and SAR were arriving to do their thing.

We got back to my truck and I turned my phone back on to find a text from JaunJaime telling me he was on Humphreys as well.

What an all-star cast for a day! :) But now I've just realized that Jim's Doyle hike via the Inner Basin was today also-- we probably should have done that one but too late. Humphreys was a good time as always.
