| partners | | Our 27th passage is now in the books.
After dropping our Cache off on FR418 by Geyler Tank, and dropping a vehicle at the North Trailhead, we drove to the Shultz pass TH and started just before 8am.
Being my first time on the Kachina Trail, I really enjoyed this section. It had almost all of the elevation gain in first 8 miles, for the entire 32 mile hike. It also had Aspens, tall ferns, and great views of the peaks and and below to the city. This was also a very busy section of the hike with many hikers and a few bikers. We ran into Uphilljunkie about 2/3rds of the way through Kachina. It was good to see Amy and Tugger again.
The next portion took us on the Aspen Nature loop and it's needless switchbacks.
The rest of the track surprisingly kept us in the cover of trees for the longest of times. I'd feared that this portion would have us exposed to the sun. The trees and wind kept us comfortable. Only when sun started getting lower on the horizon, were we more exposed.
From Snowbowl to the Northern TH we gently lost close to 3,000' in elevation, making this an relatively easy, almost 32 mile hike. My only complaint on this hike was the fine dirt for the majority of the hike. Without a doubt, this was the filthiest I've ever been after a hike. It may take weeks to get it all off.
