The thought of doing a 36 miler today didn't sound so great. Once on the trail however my attitude quickly adjusted and so did my spirits.
Wow, I love this one! It was super nice and people were out hiking, biking, horse riding and just generally enjoying the day. The Arizona Trail Association recently changed the first 12.5 miles of this passage. It was formerly on the Kachina trail for a bit up to the snow bowl parking lot. This is no longer the case. For those of you that enjoyed the Kachina part I can assure you this new section doesn't disappoint. I don't know for sure how many people I saw on the trail between the start and FR 418 but my guess would be north of 50. From 418 to Cedar Ranch there were zero.
This one for sure jumps right up into my top couple sections so far.
The Arizona Trail website has this listed as a 36 mile hike but it is closer to 35.5. My GPS ran out of juice at 30.5 but I know my pace and it's a little shy of their number. AWESOME Passage! |
