I won't go into too much detail, mostly I wanted to share photos. Greg,Joel and myself hiked in early morning July3 from the West side and arrived at Horse camp early, see posting by GLUTZ for details. we got back to the west trailhead about 2:30. I was impressed at the amount of birds for the middle of the summer, in the morning the bird singing is almost deafening. Lots of Blue Herons, Hawks, Vireos, flycatchers and if your a birder even a vermillion flycatcher (impressive) a gaggle of Coatimundis and a family of Desert Bighorn sheep on the drive out. I recommend light long sleeve shirt and pants so when the temperatures rise you can go into the creek and either submerge yourself or splash water all over your clothes for a instant swamp cooler effect. I was very comfortable coming out despite temps over 100. also a cloth hat that you can wet and also double as a swamp cooler. in some ways summer in Aravaipa is better than winter, I've been there in the winter and since you have to spend a lot of time in the water you get some very cold popcicles inside your boots, we already made reservations to go back on a overnight trip in October. one of the best hikes in arizona certainly the best summer desert hike
