| partners | | | DEVILS CHASM AT NIGHT!!! Yea this was my 4th trip to Devils Chasm and we decided to make my favorite hike a little different this time. We left the Valley Sat. Nov.18 mid morning, and left the parking area with full packs for a cold overnight. Arrived about a 1/4 mile below the dwelling climbout and set up camp. After dinner we left for the dwelling about dark. Did I forget to mention half the reason for this trip was to do some night photography of the dwelling (a new found interest of mine) the other half was to go as far up canyon as humanly possible because.......well just because. It was quite interesting hiking up to and around the dwelling with just headlamps for light. We did find out the the hike up is just as steep at night as during the day (darn). We worked the photography end until I think about 11:00PM and then went back to camp arriving somewhere around midnight. Let me tell you it gets pretty dark up there. it wasnt a new moon but because of the canyon walls we never saw the moon the whole time. the night photography is a bit of a challenge and I'm still on the upward learning curve but I'll share the ones that came out pretty good. BTW I will making a second posting for our upper Devils Chasm hike that we did the next morning, I have a few pics from that hike that might shed some light on the curious hikers that have been wondering whats up there. P.S. !AWESOME COLOR IN THE CANYON ON THIS TRIP! |
