The plan was to drive in as far as possible and then hike it to the Ballantine Cabin which I hadn't previously seen.
I picked up some schlep in Fountain Hills and took him with me. Anyway off we went and we took the Jeep about 3 miles up the roughest road it has ever seen and found a nice pull off. From there we hiked the road the rest of the way to the cabin. This is no road for unmodified 4x4s past this point. See CannondaleKids recent triplog and videos.
The cabin was cool and we considered going on over to the Ballantine Trail and making a big loop out of the hike. Unfortunately, dark clouds were looming and we figured it best just to head back the way in which we came.
The ride out put a few more scrapes on the bottom of the Jeep than the way in but all in all no real issues. It was good to hike with Bob again and catch up. |
