Had to go check something out in Globe so I decided to hit up the Six Shooter Trail while in the area. This was a good and bad idea at the same time. I parked the car and headed out on the trail from the CCC area. It was a warm 69 degrees but I took my jacket along just in case it was cold up top. Everything was going great until I got about 3.5 miles up the trail when I hit snow. Now don't get me wrong I am okay with a little snow but it soon got deeper and deeper. Next thing I knew I was hiking in 10 to 12 inch snow. Of course I have my tennis shoes on which have no tread so it's slippery. My forward momentum slowed considerably.

My original plan was to go up to Pinal Peak and then come back via the Telephone Trail. With my feet now frozen I changed plans and decided to skip the Peak. Once at the junction for the Telephone trail there was a problem. There was so much snow I couldn't see the trail. I phoned a friend (JohnLP) who is familiar with the area and discussed my options. I was poking around looking for the trail, phone in hand, talking to John and my tenny-skates started to slide. Poof down I went. Anyway I got off the phone and decided to make a quick hunt for the trail. I figured if I couldn't find it then I could always turn back. Within a couple minutes I found what looked to be the way. Off I went. From the junction it is only 4 miles back on the Telephone trail. The first two of those miles took an hour due to the snow. The second 2 took under 40 minutes.

This was my first time to the area and I could tell it is a beautiful place. I plan to return and do more once it warms up. The smart hiker would avoid this trails upper end right now. Maybe that is why there weren't any other tracks in the snow? ;)
